Han Solo
Let’s be honest: female Han Solo is just such a cool idea.
Harrison Ford is one of my favorite actors and Han Solo is my favorite of his characters (Indiana Jones is a close second, though…). Hey, I just had to make it for myself. The blue hair helps, of course.
This was one of the few cases where I was ok buying a piece of the costume. Normally I try to make everything from scratch, but Dickies makes a great blue pant, and I don’t particularly enjoy making pants, so that was a great starting point. Half jean, half slack.
I wore this at San Diego Comic Con in 2019 and it was great. I did learn some things though: for instance, my gun belt still needs a lot of work. For my own satisfaction, I want to make that belt from metal, not MDF. But the snaps and rivets I used, and even the leather itself, was subpar. Some of it started coming apart throughout the day. I’ll tell you: the biggest lesson learned with all my costumes during cons is the necessity of durability. You have to think of the long term, not just what “works” in the moment. So this will be a project coming up in my Mulligan series. Look for more to come there! Until then, please enjoy my Han photoshoot (photos by Serena Johnson), and send me suggestions for the redesign!
